Alan Ritchson has addressed the persistent Batman speculation. The star gave his opinion on the idea of playing Gotham’s vigilante and also spoke of the DC Universe. This update from San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) offers fans a bittersweet cocktail of disappointment and excitement.
Alan Ritchson may not have Batman on the cards, but there’s good news
The long-running fantasy of seeing Ritchson don the cape and cowl seems to have officially ended for now. During a panel at SDCC, Alan Ritchson clarified, “Maybe Batman is in the future, but I don’t think it is cause we are having conversations about another character.” This effectively shut down years of fervent fan casting. The speculation, which reached fever pitch in 2023, initially left the star flattered yet noncommittal. However, by August 2025, he had privately accepted that the role was not in the stars, and his latest public comments seemingly leave no room for interpretation.
Despite this disappointment, the news is not entirely bleak. After all, Ritchson confirmed he has held conversations with DC Studios about joining the franchise as a completely different character. He did not reveal the specific identity of this potential alter ego, keeping fans guessing about whether he might play a hero or a villain. Discussions with studio head James Gunn have already taken place, though no formal agreement exists yet. The creative will is clearly there on both sides, suggesting Ritchson’s eventual DCU debut is a matter of when, not if.

Patience, however, will be required. Alan Ritchson is said to be booked with various projects until 2028. This timeline aligns with the rumoured release window for The Brave and the Bold, the upcoming live-action film that will introduce the DCU’s official Batman alongside his son, Damian Wayne. While Andy Muschietti remains attached to direct, no casting announcements for the lead roles have been made.
