Speaking with Vogue, the bride explained why she wore black on her special day
The actors tied the knot in Idaho on July 25 with her aunt Julia Roberts in attendance
Emma Roberts said “I do” to her dream wedding wardrobe.
The actress, 35, tied the knot with Cody John in an outdoor ceremony in Idaho and wore two custom looks designed by Monique Lhuillier, one of which deviated from bridal tradition.
As revealed by Vogue, the Scream Queens star wore a black ensemble that was made from a design that debuted in Lhuillier’s Fall 2004 collection. The “boudoir saloon” two-piece, which included a bespoke Chantilly lace strapless corset and silk organza ruffled skirt, was reserved for after the ceremony, with Roberts explaining, “I love the idea of wearing black for the afterparty.”

“We love doing something that’s a little unexpected,” she added. “This looks like it could be totally vintage from 100 years ago, or from now.”
A press release from Monique Lhuillier shares that the reception dress was inspired by the house’s fall 2004 RTW collection. “The corset pairs seamlessly with a custom, tea-length, hand-cut skirt made of layered noir silk organza,” it reads. “The effortless movement of the organza layers creates an atmosphere of pure whimsy and fantasy, designed to move beautifully as the bride celebrates into the night.”
Roberts also put an antique twist on her ceremony gown, which was partially made by dipping 25 yards of pink fabric into ecru for a vintage “tea-stained effect.” Lhuillier named the bride’s custom shade “Vintage Rose” as a nod to her middle name.

Her dress was further personalized with a removable shawl decorated with ecru French lace, a “chapel-length” silk tulle veil and a lace voilette. Lhuillier told Vogue that the ensemble took nine months to make.
The newlywed’s wedding was held on Saturday, July 25, and was attended by Roberts’ aunt Julia Roberts and her husband, Danny Moder, according to photos obtained by Page Six.

Roberts and John announced their engagement in July 2024. They went public with their romance in August 2022. A source previously told E! Newsthat Roberts and John first connected through mutual friends.
“She’s been very content with Cody, and they’re enjoying their relationship and time together,” the insider said. “Their friends and family are happy for the both of them and think they make a great couple.”

In 2019, Roberts told Cosmopolitan why she keeps her relationship out of the public eye. “I never want to talk about relationships I’m in, or that are ending or have ended. It’s hard enough to be with someone by yourself, let alone with an audience,” she said.
