Katie Lee Biegel Shares Her Best Celebrity Run-In from Her Time Working at a Fish Market: ‘Couldn’t Have Been Lovelier’

Katie Lee Biegel is sharing past celebrity encounters, and noting that Jon Stewart was her first customer at a Sag Harbor fish market in 2003

She praised Stewart for being kind and patient, contrasting him with less polite customers she encountered that summer

Biegel also recalled a negative encounter with Chevy Chase, who mistook her for staff and shooed her away at a party

Katie Lee Biegel is opening up about a kind celebrity encounters when she was working behind a fish counter.

In a recent episode of her podcast Katie Lee Kitchen, Biegel, 44, recounted, “When I worked at the fish market in Sag Harbor back in 2003, my first summer in the Hamptons, my very first customer was Jon Stewart.”

“And he could not have been lovelier,” she added. “He was so nice. He was patient with me.”

“And when I said, ‘Hi, how are you?’ he asked me how I was right back,” she said. “I had many customers that summer that I would say, ‘Hi, how are you?’ And they would respond with, ‘I’m just looking.’ So, I always remembered the people who were nice. And Jon Stewart was nice.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Biegel noted a “not-so-nice” celebrity encounter — one with Chevy Chase, who mistook her for staff at a party at her home, and shooed her away, she said.

“It was a a very star-studded party,” she said, “And my ex-husband was standing talking to Chevy Chase and his wife. And I had a tray of jello shots. And I went up with the tray of jello shots and said, you know, ‘Do you guys want a shot?’ and Chevy thought that I was the staff at the party and he took his hand and shooed me away.”

Biegel was previously married to music legend Billy Joel (the two met in 2002 and married in 2004, ultimately divorcing in 2009) and has been married to TV producer Ryan Biegel since 2018.
