- *One Tree Hill *star Paul Johansson, who played Dan Scott, recalled an incident on set that was painful in more than one way.

- Johansson said he had gained weight because he was unhappy.

- He remembers pretending to be OK for as long as he could.

Paul Johansson has plenty of memories of making *One Tree Hill** *— after all, he played Dan Scott for years — but just one moment stands out as the most embarrassing. And it’s a douzy.

“I don’t remember what season it was, but I was in my Dan Scott mayor office or an office like that, and I had a glass desk, and I’d put on a little bit of weight,” Johansson said on an episode of the new *(Not) Over the Hill** *podcast. “Let’s just say that I was drinking my sorrows away and I was, you know, imbibing in the evenings, and I was a little puffy. This is before I got back in shape, a little puffy.”

The humiliation snuck up on him one day during a casual rehearsal.

“So we all got called to the set first thing in the morning, go to the set in the morning, and I’m doing the scene, I think it was with [costar Bethany Joy Lenz], and we’re doing a scene, and I’m kind of eating my breakfast still,” Johansson recalled. “So I’ve kind of got like a burrito, and I got an orange juice. I’m doing my scene, and I’m fat, fat Dan Scott.”

That’s when it happened.

“As I’m doing my scene, I lean on my glass desk, and it explodes,” Johansson told cohost Barbara Alyn Woods, who played his former love and co-parent Deb Scott. “And a shard of glass went in my a--, and it went about three or four inches up my butt along the side, not in the part. And I was so embarrassed, I was just kind of like, ‘I’m fine, I’m fine.’”

People kept asking him if he was feeling OK, and he continued to say that he was, but there was evidence to the contrary.

“There was a trail of blood all the way to my dressing room,” Johansson said. “And I went in my dressing room, and I pulled out the piece of glass, out of my a--, and I almost fainted. My fat cheeks were bouncing. I put like a big wad of toilet paper on the wound and held it and held it, and, finally, they had to take me to get stitches, cause I sliced my butt open.”

It was, he added, “because I had eaten too much.”

*One Tree Hill *aired for nine seasons, from 2003 to 2012. Costarring Chad Michael Murray, Sophia Bush, James Lafferty, Lee Norris, and Hilarie Burton Morgan, the CW series featured the residents of the small town of Tree Hill.
