Jimmy Fallon joked about Donald Trump hosting Xi Jinping at the White House for a state dinner on Thursday, September 24. The late-night show host also created a funny clip about their hypothetical conversation.
Chinese President Xi Jinping visited the US for a three-day trip this week. He was the first Chinese president to arrive at the White House in over a decade. The two Presidents spoke about various topics, including trade, the ongoing US-Israel conflict with Iran, AI, and more.
Donald Trump also hosted his counterpart at the White House for a state dinner on Thursday. Jimmy Fallon spoke about the dinner on his show, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, and said:
"Trump hosted Xi Jinping for an official state dinner, and we actually got a hold of what they talked about at dinner, too."
He then played a clip alternating between Trump and Xi Jinping, as they engaged in a hypothetical conversation. The POTUS first asked how the dinner was, and his counterpart answered:
"I'm a little surprised, for such a grand occasion, why aren't we in a giant ballroom?"
Trump answered,
"Well, about that."
In the clip, Xi Jinping asked the following questions, and the POTUS's answer to each one of them was "Well, about that."
"Do you at least have a large triumphal arch I can admire? What about a cultural centre with your name on it? You at least have a great wall, right? You're always talking about walls."
The Chinese President then said:
"Forget the wall. Can I just admire your nice, clear, reflecting pool?"

"Well, you see..."
Xi Jinping then said:
"Wow, you don't waste time on any vanity projects. You must really be focused on your people."
Trump answered:
"Well, it's funny you mention it."
Xi Jinping then continued to say the following statements, and all of them were met with the POTUS saying, "Well", which kept extending each time.
"Your approval rating must be sky-high. Your party must be on track to do great in the winter. And your wife must be all over you. Anyway, I appreciate you paying for this dinner."
As the conversation ended, Jimmy Fallon and the audience burst out laughing as Donald Trump let out an extended "Welllll" in the final edited clip.

Xi Jinping landed in the US on Wednesday, September 23, with his wife, Peng Liyuan. As he landed at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland, he was greeted by Donald Trump and his wife, Melania Trump, with a red carpet laid out. Moreover, two B-1s flew above them as they posed for photos, with the US Army band playing the US national anthem.
Jimmy Fallon poked fun at the POTUS picking up the Chinese President from the airport on his show on Wednesday. He said:
"Earlier today, Xi Jinping arrived in Washington, and in a break from tradition, Trump actually picked him up from the airport. That's true. Yeah, Trump did an airport pickup. I might explain this with an ad."
Fallon then showed a video of a hypothetical ad, coining the term "Uber Trump". The ad poked fun at the POTUS, jokingly explaining why he would be the "perfect Uber driver."
