Walton Goggins opens up to PEOPLE about living in Madrid while filming the action-comedy movie Mister with Chloë Grace Moretz

The actor has embraced the local culture, sharing moments like attending a Real Madrid game and exploring local markets

Goggins has also documented his experiences online, expressing love for Spain and connecting with locals from his apartment balcony

Walton Goggins is having the time of his life overseas, where he's currently working on his latest project. While living in Madrid "for a couple of months" now, the Fallout star says he's already made some lifelong memories — some of which he's also documented online.

"I'm in Madrid and I'm working, so life is good," Goggins, 54, told PEOPLE over Zoom in early April. While talking about his latest GoDaddy campaign, he opened up about settling into life in Spain while he films the new Prime Video movie Mister. It's a far cry from the quiet one he leads in Upstate New York, where he and his family have lived since 2021.

"I've been in a few magazines and on TV at the Real Madrid game the other night, not because that's what I was looking to do. It's just because I was going to support this team," Goggins says of the soccer club, which has played its home games at the city's Estadio Bernabéu since 1947.

He's also been "shopping at an antique market in the Rastro," he says, referring to the popular open-air flea market held every Sunday and public holiday. The trail, which derives its name from the slaughterhouses that first existed in the 1600s, also served as the backdrop for Spanish director Pedro Almodóvar's 1982 movie, Laberinto de Pasiones.

The actor, who prides himself on having "no artifice when it comes to presenting myself" and understands "my level of being in the public eye," has enjoyed engaging with the locals, particularly from an open perch of the residence he's currently staying in. "I have a balcony that overlooks the street in this apartment that we rented. People know that I live here. I sit out on that balcony and people come by and they take pictures, then I drink wine and I listen to music," he says.

Some of those interactions he's also documented on social media, including a clip of a stranger on the street asking if he was "Walton Goggins" that he posted to Instagram on April 10, a day after talking with PEOPLE. The actor chatted with the man and his friend before offering to take a selfie with them.

"The Greatest encounter ever (unedited… long I know… but that's the point. Context is everything) you never know who you're going meet… or what was happening in their life prior to your encounter. Just got off work. I drink and I smoke and sit on my balcony… daily," Goggins captioned the post.

He added, "I've had countless conversations like this over the past 2 months… people walking by… saying hello. I love this country. I love the people. I love the food. I love the music. I love the language (I'm horrible at speaking it but I'm really trying) and I love España."

In other another Instagram post shared on Feb. 15, exemplifying just how much he was enjoying embracing a new city — and all the new people that come with it, he wrote, "Some people may love engaging with the world as much as I do… But no one loves it more."

Other moments he's shared online have included "quality time" spent with "my loves" — wife Nadia Conners and their son, Augustus — as all three wandered around the city, as seen in a carousel of photos posted on April 2. He also posted another roundup of photos featuring "Madrid + Mi Familia" earlier on March 15, showing them at various locations.

One of their stops included a visit to the 45th edition of the International Contemporary Art Fair ARCOmadrid 2026 on March 6. According to the event, it has become the platform for contemporary art, with 211 galleries featuring works of nearly 1,300 artists from 30 countries on display.

Of course, Goggins' time in Madrid hasn't been all leisure. According to the White Lotus star, "I'm working my a-- off right now with something that I think that people are really going to enjoy."

Admittedly, "I was very fearful going into this experience just predicated on the subject matter and being fearful of not being able to pull it off," he says of Mister. "And maybe I'm not able to pull it off, but I'm giving it everything that I have, along with everyone else."

According to Deadline, the action-comedy movie from the production team behind John Wick "follows a man (Goggins) who wakes up in a strange house covered in blood and comes to realize his true identity while fighting off contract killers from his past — including everyone from his exes to his best friend. To get out, he teams up with his estranged daughter (Chloë Grace Moretz) who also has ended up in the family business, but they will need to repair their relationship in order to survive."

Mister, Goggins adds, "moves me and I hope it moves other people. It's funny as s–t and actually says something really kind about the world."

Amid his busy schedule, he also had to squeeze in the "Daddy of Domains" commercial for GoDaddy. "They came over here. They made the trek, and I had a day. That was it," he reveals, adding that "everybody knew the time constraints, but we set it up and I knew what GoDaddy wanted to talk about." Having worked with the web hosting company since the launch of his Walton Goggins Goggle Glasses, he says, "I was as passionate about this message as they were. It's like, well, how do you reach those people and get the message to them? Make it fun."

Fun is something that easily sums up Goggins' life abroad. And despite how crazy it might be for some, given all the attention he's getting around the city while putting it all into his latest project, he says happily, "I'm just having the time of my life, man, really."
