In March 2026, the network announced that Watson had been canceled after two seasons, per The Hollywood Reporter. The series concluded with the season 2 finale on May 3.
The medical mystery drama starred Morris Chestnut as Dr. John Watson, the head of the Holmes Clinic of Diagnostic Medicine for rare disorders. In addition to getting to the bottom of patients' problems, Watson was also grieving his close friend Sherlock Holmes' apparent death. However, as the second season unraveled, Watson quickly discovered that not everything was as it seemed.
In addition to Chestnut starring as the titular character, the series also featured Eve Harlow as Dr. Ingrid Derian, Peter Mark Kendall as Dr. Stephens Croft, Inga Schlingmann as Dr. Sasha Lubbock, Ritchie Coster as Shinwell Johnson, Rochelle Aytes as Dr. Mary Morstan, Randall Park as Professor James Moriarty, Robert Carlyle as Sherlock Holmes and Riley Orr as Croft's twin Glen.

Watson, which premiered in January 2025 on CBS, was officially canceled after two seasons in March 2026. CBS also announced the cancellation of DMV at the same time.
During a CBS 2026-27 schedule event in April, CBS and CBS Studios head Amy Reisenbach addressed the cancellation news.
“In terms of DMV and Watson, we love both those shows. They were a joy to work on," Reisenbach said at the time, per Deadline. "Morris Chestnut is maybe one of the greatest No. 1's I've ever dealt with. But, you know, it's a high bar on CBS. We aggregate all the numbers, and we have to make those tough decisions in order to make room for new shows."
The season 2 premiere of Watson garnered 2.5 million total viewers, per Programming Insider.

In an Instagram video on March 30, Chestnut said he was disappointed by the cancelation but also wanted to thank those involved with the show.
"Yes, it's disappointing, but that the way the show biz beast is," he said, in part. "It's the nature of the beast, and you have to take the good with the bad."
He continued, "Thank you so much for all of the fans who supported and watched the show. Your support of our show did not go unrecognized, and we truly truly appreciated those of you who tuned in each week to find the mystery and the case of the week."
Schlingmann also addressed the cancellation by posting a behind-the-scenes video montage, writing about how much of an "honor" it was to star in the show.
"What an honor and a joy it's been to be in this cast for two seasons," she wrote on April 30. "I had the fortune to work with THE best, most talented, and funnest crew in the biz. Gosh, it was such a joy to show up to set every day. How lucky. Thank you to everyone who was a part of this show (including those of you who watched.) I will miss everyone dearly."
Meanwhile, Aytes posted a video from an upcoming episode on March 27 and wrote that she was "saddened by the news of our cancellation."

The final episode of Watson, the season 2 finale, titled "The Cobalt Fissure," aired May 3 at 10 p.m. ET on CBS.
Prior to the season 2 finale, Watson dropped a major twist when the doctors discovered that Sherlock — whom everyone except Watson thought had died — was actually alive and sitting in the hospital right in front of them.
While Watson had previously claimed to have seen Sherlock, his brain tumor affected his memory, so his friends and colleagues chalked it up to hallucinations. Even though Sherlock seemed to be real, he also appeared to have suffered amnesia and could not remember anyone.
