"Secret Lives of Mormon Wives" star Mikayla Matthews is returning to Season 4 with surprising news.
Despite going to therapy together and attempting to navigate intimacy issues, the reality star revealed on the March 12 debut, in Episode 9, that she and her husband, Jace Terry, have opted to separate.
The couple shares four children together – Beckham, 8, Haven, 6, Tommie, 4, and 7-month-old Lottie.
Matthews, 25, has attributed their intimacy issues to experiencing sexual abuse as a child, which she revealed in Season 3 of the Hulu series. She has also suffered from a chronic health issue affecting her skin since having their fourth child.
"At home, you feel like you can't focus on your skin and your health because I'm also here," Terry tells Matthews in the episode.
"I think it's hard any time you bring up the stuff, the sex, the intimacy. I feel like it's hard on me because I feel like my nervous system is going into fight or flight," she responded. "I'm already maxxed out. My bucket is full."
Terry responded with frustration that Matthews has declined to continue going the therapy route.

"For me, it seems like the solution to that would be to commit to trauma therapy until you're at a point where it doesn't make your nervous system freak out," he replied, while Matthews expressed hesitation that she was not making progress in treatment.

However the couple shared they were open to the possibility of reconciliation.
"I don't think it's with the intention of being separated forever," Matthews said. "I think we're obviously still going to see each other every single day. I'm not trying to go even a day away from the kids anyways."
"I think it's definitely hard to put a timeline on the situation because it could take weeks, it could take months to be healed," she added. "There's a part of me that is definitely scared to lose him because I feel like our marriage is so good outside of the sexual intimacy part of it, which is ironic because that's his No. 1 need and that's my No. 1 wound."
Though she doesn't want to "tear our family apart," in order to heal she said she has to "be selfish for a period of time."
